Legislation and Tuna Plan Review with facilitators from the Pacific Island Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA)

A one-week workshop was held starting on the 11th of September 2017 at the Ministry of Fisheries for the Legislation and Tuna Plan Review with facilitators from the Pacific Island Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).

The CEO for Ministry of Fisheries, Dr. Tu'ikolongahau Halafihi said in his opening remarks from the Stakeholder consultation workshop:

"I would like to give a warm welcome to the FFA team, Sam, Dr. Chris Reid, BJ and Manu who will be here tomorrow. I wrote to FFA seeking assistance last year with the Ministry of Fisheries stakeholder engagement. From FFA's scope team, they recommended holding consultation which began in January 2017. This is a continuous effort from FFA's stakeholder consultation from January this year FFA has provided valuable assistance and has been a major support with the Minister of Fisheries stakeholder engagement."

The purpose of ths workshop is to continue working on activities listed below as priority request from the Ministry of Fisheres to FFA:

  1. Legislative Review
  2. Tuna Management Plan, NPOA Shark review
  3. Game Fishing Plan discussion of 2nd draft with FFA inputs
  4. Port State Measures Briefing
  5. WCPFC Obligations Briefing

This workshop was facilitated by FFA staff and with the assistance of the staff from the Ministry.
